The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks

Think vampires are romantic, sexy, and powerful? Think again. Vampires are dead. And unless they want to end up staked, they have to give up fanging people, admit their addiction, join a support group, and reform themselves. Nina Harrison, fanged at fifteen and still living with her mother, hates the Reformed Vampire Support Group meetings every Tuesday night. Even if she does appreciate Dave, who was in a punk band when he was alive, nothing exciting ever happens. That is, until one of group members is mysteriously destroyed by a silver bullet. With Nina (determined to prove that vamps aren't useless or weak) and Dave (secretly in love with Nina) at the helm, the misfit vampires soon band together to track down the hunter, save a werewolf, and keep the world safe from the likes of themselves.

I will never view vampires the same way again. Catherine has taken everything you thought you knew and completely destroyed it in this novel. The writing is fantastic. She has placed the right amount of drama and wit making The Reformed Vampire Support Group laugh-out-loud funny.

I absolutely adored the characters. Even with their shared health issues, they all had their own distinct personality. Nina was by far my favorite. Out spoken and sarcastic, she charmed me. Her bravery (and cute crush on Dave) really won me over. Nina was smart and often was the mastermind mind behind most of the plans. I also loved that she was a published writer. Dave was wonderful. He was so sweet, lonely, strong (as strong as he could physically be), and logical. He shoved everyone back down to reality when necessary. The characters I liked the least, however, had to be Sanford and Horace. Horace was just a jerk, but Sanford was way too preachy for me. I knew that he had everyone's best interest at heart, but every time he started being bossy I had to grit my teeth. Reuben was a sweetie even though he was quick to violence. I still sympathized with him. His past was extremely messed up and he had a good heart...that had a slight taste for revenge.

Catherine Jinks did an outstanding job with this story. I laughed from beginning to end, and learned about a very different side to vampires. If you are looking for something original and out of the norm, I would highly recommend this one.
