Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr

Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone—but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he'd ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen. Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her—but that was before Keenan. He stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined. In Melissa Marr's third mesmerizing tale of Faerie, Seth and Aislinn struggle to stay true to themselves and each other in a milieu of shadowy rules and shifting allegiances, where old friends become new enemies and one wrong move could plunge the Earth into chaos.

I have to be honest. It took me a while before I was drawn into this one, but (like always) Melissa has written an unforgettable tale of romance, faery, and the power of choice. Once I became invested, I could not put it down.

Seth has always held a special spot in my heart, and it killed me to see him feel so disconnected. Being mortal really bothered him, and he felt like it stood in the way of him and Ash. His 'grand' decision seemed a little foolish to me. I always think before I leap but Seth did not seem to care about what the consequences were. His heart was set on it and there was no talking him out of it. Ash was a tad whiny and needy. She was so caught up in what she wanted that she was missing the bigger picture. She couldn't see how this was affecting Seth. All she could see was how it affected her. The me me me me attitude got a little old. I have always had a kind of strained affection for Keenan. This novel did not change that. I can understand his need to protect himself, his queen, and his court but he is so manipulative. Unlike Naill and the Dark Court, he acts innocent until he is caught. It also felt like he was just stuck on himself. It was never about what Ash or Donia was going through. I do not even want to discuss Donia. Ugh! Let's just say she's doing what she thinks she has too.

Fragile Eternity is excellent and an important installment in the series. I can not wait to see what the world of Faery holds next.

  1. Nice review! I still need to read this one. I've noticed since Ink Exchange how easily Marr can make you like a character then not like them then quickly going back to liking them again. She always ends up surprising me in the end too!
